FIRST, THE BOTTOM LINE
Cadillac of late has had a serious problem: Its buyers are dying.
And young people who represent future luxury car buyers no longer dream of someday driving the ultimate land yacht, as their fathers and grandfathers did.
We now live in an era of great world cars and Cadillac must find a way to bridge the chasm between comfort-seeking elders and no-compromise-on-performance younger drivers who cut their Baby Boomer driving teeth on BMWs. Enter the Seville STS and Eldorado Touring Coupe. To borrow the Oldsmobile phrase: These are not your father’s Cadillacs. Read the rest of this entry »
Not long ago Audi surprised us with some minimal changes to its logo, and now Cadillac makes the news for the same reason. The luxury brand of General Motors has updated its famous shield as a reflection of its reinvention as a manufacturer, and although the changes are matters of nuance, significantly altering their appearance.
Brand New, shrewdly, has noticed the new logo even before Cadillac advertises itself changes. Faced with the current stylish design, the shield of Le Sieur Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, founder of Detroit, won texture and relief, though perhaps a little more retro look of the account. The trouble is in any case the apparent lack of alignment between the shield and laurel wreath, a failure that is obvious even without paying much attention. GM will assume that it corrected for when you want it official. Read the rest of this entry »

Without a doubt, the 2003 Cadillac CTS evokes an emotional response the first time you see it. Or should I say, Evoq?s a response. After all, it?s based on the GM concept car of that name which we saw paraded around the show circuit in the past few years.
With the bold swipe of a designer?s pen, Cadillac takes us to their vision of the future. It?s angular, strong and completely distinctive. Unlike many of the competitors in the medium size luxury car segment, who take a ?lets all look the same? approach, the CTS stakes a claim for independence. Love the styling, or hate it, this is a very good car. Offering a stout 220 horsepower with rear wheel drive and all the gadgets and luxury we?ve come to expect for this class of vehicle, Cadillac is willing to stand out from the crowd. Personally, I like it and my time behind the wheel did nothing to convince me otherwise. For Bob Storck?s full review, read on. Read the rest of this entry »
Cadillac Escalade wagon applies the greatest power to a SUV.
With a thick but flat bumper lip, squarish glimmering lenses in corner headlamp clusters and an egg-crate grille reflecting bright chrome, that hard-edged prow of the new Escalade sport-utility wagon looks like it’s raring to roll over a nasty stretch of rough pavement.
Sharp lines on body panels that follow the face also look serious, with a thick monotone slab of armor low at the sides and wheelwells flared around big all-season tires ringing shiny seven-spoke aluminum wheels. Read the rest of this entry »
