The British company Land Rover has begun to develop hybrid versions SUV Range Rover Sport, which will appear in dealerships only in 2012. According to the magazine Autocar, a pure electric car can travel about 32 kilometers, and its CO2 emissions will not exceed 100 grams per kilometer (it is only six grams more than the hybrid Toyota Prius). Tests of five prototypes of clean Range Rover Sport will start next year. Read the rest of this entry »
XUNANTUNICH, BELIZE — In Belize, swamp water and crocodiles hampered the caravan of Land Rover Discovery sport-utility wagons, while in steamy jungles of adjacent Guatemala one night, guerrilla gunmen surrounded the encamped teams of drivers from 24 nations.
Then came dust in ruts over mountains in El Salvador, river challenges like the Jupilingo leading into Honduras, plus more jungles to cross before Read the rest of this entry »
The new Range Rover is pure opulence on wheels.
But to desire the Range Rover based on looks and luxury alone would be foolish. The Land Rover came to conquer our land in March 1987. It took about a decade and a half to sell the first 100,000 vehicles in the United States, but it took only five more to move the next 150,000. And now, with a wider range and the Range Rover which always spreads like the king of luxury SUV with pride, Land Rover of North America took just two and a half years to sell the other 100,000 units. Engine 3.0-liter V6 diesel Jaguar that we learned last week, is also found under the hood of the Land Rover. The Land Rover Discovery (sold in the United States as the LR3) and Range Rover Sport will get both the V6 with 237 hp and 272 hp respectively. In its report, Coach is not clear if the old V6 2.7 liter will be deleted, but it seems likely, since the new engine is both more powerful and more fuel efficient. Read the rest of this entry »
