If you do not already think Mercury is dead, the brand has been languishing for many years; Ford has finally given the ax official. The brand has only a 0.8 percent market share in the United States, according to the spokesman of the company and Ford increased its market share this year by more than twice what Mercy is every year.

For many previous claims that Mercury by Ford will not be killed, the company contends that the decision was not planned and discussions on the end of Mercury was started last week. We remain skeptical: a week seems like a terribly short time to decide to kill a 70-year mark, and the total lack of new product for mercury in recent years suggests that few people were planning their future.
Ford plans to begin offering special incentives this summer to clear out inventory and said it will cease production of mercury in the fourth quarter of 2010. Compared to the stalemate GM has discovered can be created during closure of a mark and the abandonment of franchises, Ford should have a relatively easy time of it. Of all the existing 1712 Mercury dealers, not one is a standalone store. Ford and Lincoln dealers will of course continue to maintain vehicles and Mercury honor warranties on them.
With Mercury still hot and in transit to the morgue, Ford has already announced its intention to Lincoln to compete more directly with Cadillac and Lexus (another hint that the disappearance of mercury was not a quick decision). Company resources are redistributed to extend the line with Lincoln “seven new or significantly freshened vehicles in the next four years.”
In a move sure to appease the dealers lose the line of Mercury, Lincoln own gain is offering C-segment based on the upcoming Ford Focus new global platform. The C-segment car will offer EcoBoost power train, like other Lincoln over the next four years, including the browser. A brand new V-6 is under development and will be specific to Lincoln.
Derrick Kuzak, vice president of Global Product Development, says that Lincoln’s future will not just Ford badge engineering, but will be designed and “Suitable for Lincoln,” Lincoln with technology specific and unique characteristics. We do not know not exactly “designed for Lincoln” is quite an ambitious, somewhat, but Lincoln said the new priority is to provide “engaging dynamics and warm inviting interior.” A warm cabin that is on track to achieve, but to fulfill the dynamic binding, Lincoln certainly a lot of catching up to do. Without the dead weight burden the company of Mercury, it will at least have more resources to devote to the cause.
The American auto industry is still alive – with each passing month, he feels better and better after the recent deep crisis. But he will never be the same again. We are already beginning to get used to that with the car cards disappear once known American brands. Already forgotten Plymouth, now it is Mercury.

January 4, 2011 from the conveyor in the Canadian city of Ontario, came the last production car Mercury – Sedan Grand Marquis. Dealers have already removed the logos from their Mercury showrooms, the days of the factory in Ontario, too, are numbered. But with the Grand Marquis goes not just a car brand. Takes a whole era of American avtoklassiki.
Grand Marquis – the representative of old-school American car. You can tell the last of the Mohicans. Firstly, it is built on a platform of Ford Panther. This means that the car body rests on a frame – as in the classic off-reader. By the way, that’s why fellow Grand Marquis – Lincoln Town Car – so fond of producing a limousine – a frame can be stretched to infinity, without fearing for rigidity.
Secondly, this is the last of the six-sedans. Yes, that six-, as in the good old U.S. of times. See how the linked Salon. The front seats are right next to each other, and if the tilt center armrests, there will be just the place for one more person. And in the back of the sofa can easily sit at least three and sometimes four. Or lie down together…
These vehicles will no longer be. But the last Mercury goes not to the museum, and … in some firms tend to “sluzhebkoy”. Americans, it seems, anyway – they have now other favorites.

Over 40 years before the term was popular, this 1946 Mercury woodie wagon was transformed into one of the first sport utility vehicles, used for off-road expeditions by nature photographer Don Bleitz. Bleitz, often referred to as the twentieth century John James Audubon, was known for his bird photography published in popular magazines including the Saturday Evening Post. After purchasing the vehicle in 1946, he first had it outfitted with a Marmon-Herrington four-wheel drive system and then took it to Coachcraft of Hollywood for further modifications for camping. The last 12 months could be described as the “Year of the Crossover.” This begs the question: Why has Ford made its successful Escape and Mercury Mariner crossovers look more like SUVs?
